Why No Time Is Perfect and Yet Every Moment Is

Perfect time, perfect location, perfect stage, perfect feeling, perfect looking...are all things desirable, but very illusory.

Surrounded by the Italian mountains during my Photography workshop in a beautiful castle somewhere outside of Venice, I sat observing a family portrait session and I was instantly and deeply moved. I wished for our family to come together (we are geographically split) for a family portrait session, as a gift to ourselves to celebrate and cherish our love for each other.

Since my eldest went to college 500 miles away and moved even further away after graduation, our time with her got more and more limited as the years went by. My youngest is headed to college in Fall and I knew that getting everyone together in one room under normal circumstances is a challenge. And doing so for a portrait session is even harder. So between college applications,  audit deadlines, last-minute crisis at work and my own client’s Holiday portraits on hold, we hit a pause button on our lives and flew in from three different cities to meet up in Charleston, SC at King and Fields so we could hold this stage of our lives in our hearts and on our walls forever.

True to their promise, they delivered portraits that matter.  Even though it was not a “family vacation”, my family put everything on hold for those few hours. This portrait session was the gift of time spent connecting as a family and it is captured for us as a reminder for what is truly important.

These images will be beautiful wall art in our home and they will be a gift that will keep on giving for days and years to come for us and our children. Make today your perfect. Yes, the teens will resist but leave them to me. I promise to keep them engaged like our photographer kept them engaged. Are you ready to capture your family’s portrait session?
